Travel Nursing Agency



Choosing one doesn't have to be daunting.............


The best way to choose a travel nursing agency is to ask questions and then ask more questions.  There are a lot of agencies out there and they all want you as part of their staff.

To pick the best agency for you for your travel nursing career you want the agency that will work with you, for you, have the higher pay and the best compensation plan.

The traveling nurse agency will be your employer through your contract. You want to be able to work with them as well as the company working for you.  It is better to talk to and compare at least two or more agencies before deciding which one you will use.

If you are not comfortable with the travel agencies that you have talked with then compare more.  You will find the right travel nursing agency.

Here are some key questions to ask the recruiter to help you in choosing a traveling nurse agency.

General Questions

  • How long have you been in business?
  • Are you registered with the Better Business Bureau?
  • Do you have references of other nurses that I can call who have used your travel nursing agency?
  • If I need to get a hold of someone at anytime will I be able to?
  • What are your requirements for me as your employee?
  • What type of pay, bonuses and benefits do you offer?
  • How do you pay your employees and at what intervals?
  • What type of certification do I need?
  • Do you help in obtaining out of state licenses?
  • What type of testing do you require?
  • What health records do you need from me?
  • How many years of recent experience is required to start?
  • What type of proof of who I am do you need?
  • What type of contracts do you offer?
  • Can I travel with my family or with a friend?
  • Will my pet be allowed to travel with me?
  • What is full time employment?
  • What happens if I can't finish the contract?
  • When will I be able to start working after completing your paperwork?
  • Do you help with relocation if I want to stay?
  • Will you be there every step of the way?
  • How many travel nurses do you have on contract?
  • Will I qualify for tax benefits?


Hospital And Facilities

  • Does the hospital offer orientation?
  • What type of testing is required?
  • What size is the place?
  • What is the nurse to patient ratio?
  • What type of shifts will I work?
  • Am I expected to float?
  • Will I be expected to be in charge?
  • If I am required to be a charge nurse will my pay increase for the shift?
  • Are computers used to chart?
  • What type of medical equipment is used (med carts, etc.)?
  • What type of certification do I need for the different areas?
  • Do the hospitals or facilities offer cross-training?
  • Will I be able to pick the floor or area I want to work in?
  • How long have you worked with the hospital of facility?
  • Will my pay be guaranteed if my shift is canceled?
  • What type of over time pay is offered?
  • What if I like it where I am at?
  • Are there parking costs?
  • Do the hospitals and facilities that you associate with utilize many travel nursing agencies?

You can also call the hospital or facility and visit with them on other questions you have.


Housing
  • What is your housing arrangement?
  • Will this be a one bedroom?
  • What is included in the housing?
  • How close will I be to the hospital or facility?
  • Is there public transportation if I don't have a vehicle?
  • What type of neighborhood will I be in?
  • Will I share housing with someone else or will it just be me?
  • Are there parking costs?
  • Will the rent and utilities be paid for?
